Serviced · Sharpened · Checked — before every hire

What you are actually hiring

Serviced between
every hire.

“Serviced between every hire” gets said a lot. Here it means a specific list of jobs, done by the engineer whose name is on the van, before a machine goes back out:

  • Blades ground true on the Chippermaster, back to the maker's angle — not run until they are visibly blunt.
  • Grinder teeth checked and sharpened, or swapped if they are past it.
  • Engine service items looked at — oil, filters, belts, plugs, air filter.
  • Hydraulics, guards and controls checked over, greased and working as they should.
  • A test run before it goes on the trailer, not after you have got it to site.

None of that is exotic. It is just what a workshop does when the machine coming back is its own.

The fleet

Chippers and grinders.

Two categories, both arb machinery we work on every week — which is exactly why we are comfortable hiring them out.

Wood chippers

Towable machines that go behind a van or a pickup and chip on site all day.

  • Towable, sub-750 kg — road-legal on a standard towbar.
  • Tracked machines for tight access and soft ground.
  • Blades sharpened before every hire, on our own grinder.
  • Hire boards fitted and a proper handover before you leave.

Stump grinders

Pedestrian grinders that get through a standard gateway and take the stump below ground level.

  • Pedestrian FSI machines — B21 and B23 in the workshop.
  • Narrow-gate friendly for back gardens and churchyards.
  • Teeth checked and sharpened so you grind stump, not time.
  • Trailered or self-collect from the unit.

How hiring works

Call. Confirm. Collect.

No account application, no portal, no waiting for a quote to be emailed over.

  1. Ring the engineer

Tell us the job, not just the machine — access, stump size, how much you have got to get through. If a different machine suits it better, we will say so.

  2. We confirm machine and dates

You get the machine, the dates and the rate confirmed there and then, and it gets prepped for your slot.

  3. Collect or arrange delivery

Collect from Unit 11, Dewar Court with a proper handover, or ask about delivery when you book.

Rates and area

POA — and here is why.

What a hire costs depends on the machine, how long you need it, and whether it is going out on your trailer or ours. Rather than publish a number that is wrong for half the jobs that come in, we quote on the call.

Ring and you will have a price in the time it takes to describe the job.

Hire questions

Straight answers.

Is the machine serviced before I get it?

Yes — that is the whole point of hiring from an engineer. Every machine is serviced, sharpened and checked over before it leaves Unit 11, and gets the same treatment when it comes back before the next hire.

Chipper blades are ground here on our own Chippermaster, and stump grinders go out with teeth in working order.

What happens if it plays up on site?

Ring the same number you booked on. You get the engineer who prepared the machine — not a call centre reading a script — so most problems get sorted on the phone.

If it does need to come back, we will tell you straight away rather than leaving you guessing.

Can I hire for a single day?

Day, weekend or week. Tell us the job and the dates and we will say what fits.

What does it cost?

Rates are on application — ring for today's price and availability, because it depends on the machine and how long you need it.

Do you deliver, or do I collect?

Collection from Unit 11, Dewar Court is always an option, and the towable machines go behind a van or pickup.

What do I need to tow a chipper?

The towable chippers are sub-750 kg, so they sit behind a van or a pickup on a standard towbar. Check your own vehicle's towing limit and your licence entitlement before you set off — we will give you the machine's weight so you can.

Do you hire to the public, or trade only?

The kit is trade machinery and it is priced and handed over as such. If you are not an arborist or a groundworker, ring and describe the job — we will tell you honestly whether hiring it is a sensible idea, and what else would do it.
